Someone told me once that when their kids came home they looked forward to all their "firsts" together. First 4th of July, First time swimming, first camping trip etc. But they found all of their "seconds" to be much more enjoyable. I am finding that to be true. This year, our second summer together has felt so much more fun than our firsts. I think something about us knowing what to expect and the kids knowing what to expect make things a lot smoother. Not to mention everybody being fully adjusted to our new life, our normal life.
But because I've adjusted to my new life, I also get deceived into believing that I can do it on my own. I remember feeling last year like I wouldn't even be able to breathe if I didn't read my bible that day. Though I'm thankful that we've all adjusted, I hate that my heart "adjusts" in that way. I wish I always had that urgency. I wish that even when times were easy I would thirst for God's word as I do when times are hard.
What hasn't worn off is my overwhelming love for my kids and complete awe that God chose me to be their mom. I don't think I'll ever get over it. They bless me more than I ever imagined. And make the hard days worth it a thousand times over.
I'm looking forward to 4th of July this year. I can't wait to watch the little Carmichael parade with my kids, then swim and watch fireworks. I think they're going to love it!
